PIZZA MY HEART


Today is Super Bowl Sunday, and even though I don't care about football at all, I will join millions of Americans in sitting in front of the television and eating junk food while watching the commercials, the halftime show, and, of course, the main event.

This year, I decided the perfect Super Bowl meal would be pizza, specifically one of the fabulous vegan pizzas from Pizza My Heart in downtown Walnut Creek. Unlike some pizza restaurants, where the only concession to vegans is to offer some type of vegan cheese, Pizza My Heart has three vegan specialty pizzas. They use Miyoko's vegan mozzarella, they offer Beyond Sausage as a topping, and they even have vegan pepperoni. 

I generally just order the create-your-own vegan pizza option, but today, I ordered one of their specialty pizzas -- the Mt. Diablo. This pie is made with pizza sauce, Miyoko's mozzarella, Beyond Meat Hot Italian sausage, garlic, mushrooms, peppadew peppers, and fresh parsley, and it's delicious. (I started my Super Bowl feasting a little early.)



Pizza My Heart's other vegan pizzas are the Vegan Big Sur, which, among other toppings, features forty cloves of garlic, vegan pepperoni, and Beyond Meat Italian sausage; and the Mendocino, which is essentially a vegan cheese pizza.

Pizza My Heart is located at 1590 Botelho Drive. It's open Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, and on Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. There's also a Pizza My Heart in San Ramon at 3141-D Crow Canyon Place. It's open the same hours as the Walnut Creek location.
